Always ask yourself if the interventions evaluated in fair comparisons are relevant.
For example, a fair comparison of an intervention carried out by commercial companies under controlled conditions may not provide a reliable estimate of its effects in other settings, such as on a working farm.
Similarly, comparing a new pesticide to a one that is not commonly used (and that is less effective or safe than commonly used pesticides) would not provide a relevant estimate of how the new pesticide compares to commonly used ones.
REMEMBER: Be aware that if available interventions are sufficiently different from those in the research studies, the results may not apply to you.
