Individual experiences and anecdotes alone are not a reliable basis for most treatment claims.
People often form views of treatments based on their past experiences with them. While this is not a bad thing, these views must be supported by verifiable evidence. There may have been many factors influencing their previous experience and their conclusions may not be the only explanation. This is true of our own preconceived opinions but also that of colleagues and experts.
While experience is a great learning tool, we should strive to support our opinions with scientific research where possible.
BEWARE of recommendations or discouragements based solely on individuals’ previous experiences.
REMEMBER: Someone’s personal experience of using a treatment is subject to many biases and their conclusions are not scientific facts.
